We often notice that the lettering on high-end cosmetic cartons is extremely small, yet it remains razor-sharp under a magnifying glass.
What kind of screen mesh makes this possible, and why?
Let MAISHI MFG give you the full story.
First, micro-text demands intimate contact between the stencil and the substrate, plus flawless ink release.
Polyester mesh has a smoother, lower-static surface; ink “releases” cleanly, allowing 0.3 mm micro-text to be reproduced without stringing or misting. Stainless-steel mesh, being conductive, traps static—fine strokes pick up dust, and edges look fuzzy under magnification. This is only the “imaging” advantage.
By using MAISHI MFG high-count polyester mesh, surface roughness is reduced even further, keeping tiny letter edges crisp.
Moving to the “chemical” side, the solvents in the pressroom are an invisible enemy.
Cosmetic packaging usually involves UV inks and ester-based solvents. Polyester retains its pore size and stays flexible after long exposure; stainless steel tolerates alkalis, but esters and ketones can micro-etch it, enlarging dots and causing batch-to-batch colour drift.
MAISHI MFG polyester monofilament is biaxially stretched, giving a 20 % boost in solvent resistance—ideal for long print runs.
With material and chemistry solved, the next battle is “press speed” versus “stencil life”.
Polyester has just the right elasticity to absorb the squeegee’s impact, so the screen lasts longer. Stainless steel is rigid and non-resilient; under high tension and high speed it can develop micro-cracks, leading to sudden stencil failure and costly downtime.
Finally, polyester needs no extra surface treatment to bond firmly to photo-emulsion, so screen making is short and yields are high. Stainless steel must be roughened or primed, otherwise the emulsion lifts, narrowing the process window—an unwanted risk when samples and short lead times are the norm in premium cosmetics.
Therefore, if a brand wants “zero-defect” micro-text on its cartons, polyester mesh is the first choice.
MAISHI MFG keeps 355–420 mesh in stock and offers trial sheets for immediate testing.
